SO true. Sometimes I don't even think about what the lyrics mean to songs. I just zone out and continue with my workout. There is no way it can be a positive influence on my life. Awesome job girl changing up the music. I'm sure people will notice in a good way :)
Thanks so much for answering my questions for my blog. I really appreciate it.
You're right about becoming desensitized to the lyrics. A lot of times it goes in one ear and right out the other (although your mind is subconsciously comprehending it). When my kids are around is when I really notice the negativity in these songs. That's why we usually have the Kidz Bop versions in my house.
Hey you have made a really important point that I almost feel embarrassed to say that I would have not really noticed had you not pointed it out and now that you have, yeah I think I am going to boycott those same kinds songs and lyrics too. I think this is a really great topic, thanks for highlighting it Joy. I really love your blog! Wish I could come to YOUR boot camp instead of mine on Monday nights ;)
I've kind of done the same thing in my life. It was just music playing - not necessarily workout music, but I felt like hearing songs over and over that are full of anger and despair could only make me come to see people in general as ugly disappointments. If everything people are singing about is pain and trouble and anguish, it's like - is there anything at all beautiful about life?? It DOES affect your mind and your attitude - you made the right decision!!

ReplyDeleteVery interesting, I hardly think about the lyrics too. Will definitely update my workout playlists.

ReplyDeleteWow, this is a great post. I've never really thought about it. I almost always listen for the beat, the energy.
