My girls that are 40 and over tend to jokingly say,"This old xyz body part isn't working like it used to". You have to overcome fitness challenges at every age. What I love about our bodies is that it can repair itself. You literally can resculpt your body at any time. The key is to quit looking at other people's age, fitness level, ability, strengths and weaknesses and focus on your own self ONLY.

I believe that you are only as old as you feel. I also believe that you can rescultpt your body. When it comes to "old xyz body parts" I would have to agree with the 40 somethings. MY bones are not like my 20 year old bones. They are stiff and they ache all of the time. I really hope that this is a challenge the CAN be overcome.
ReplyDeleteHey Tia
ReplyDeleteThere are 2 sides to that coin. Yes, there is a general decline in your muscle strength and flexiblity as you age. Your bones do lose calcium with time as well. However, with fitness, proper eating, proper supplements and a positive outlook you can turn back the clock. That is why you have some people who make better health choices at 50 than 20 and say they feel 100 x stronger and better.
Hi girls, it's Kim and while I would like to believe I am only as old as I feel (that would be in the neighborhood of 25-30) I had a rude awakening Monday, as my 45 year old calf muscle had other ideas about what I should be doing...in a move I'd done a bunch of times-it was the beginning of week three and I was feeling STRONG (and in a fitting memorial, I got to do the swings, my FAVORITES!!!) but I went down, and I went down hard. So, I guess I would say that sometimes the spirit is willing but the flesh is weak..BUT at 45 I am way more determined than at 25...so I WILL be back, but I will also do my best to heal so it doesn't happen again-and if you feel you are truly injured, get checked out and do the same. Hate admitting I have weaknesses but would hate it worse if it stopped me from my longterm goal of being fit. Worked out today lifting weights, doing crunches and staying away from my cranky 45 year old calf muscle...but I DID work out and will continue to do so no matter what! Boot camp-translation: JOY- has taught me I CAN do it-maybe I am stronger at some moves and weaker at others but dammit I'm going to try (and yes Joy I will do 20 pushups for the bad word, AND they will be BOY pushups!) Tia and Betsy, you hang in, you hear? Elizabeth, I will sweat for you in the meantime...Shante, you got it goin' on, Jo, Jen & Michelle, save my spot I'll be back! And Ash, you can DO this, twins are way scarier than working out, just ask Elizabeth! And Marnie, we were GOOD on that bench, sometimes *&%$ just happens (I can do 20 pushups but not sure I can do 40 so I had to bring in substitutes for the dirty word!!) And my three-day a weeker girlfriends in the van next to me-I am so sorry by week three I should have been able to call you by name but I know your cute cute faces and you know me as the "mile doubter" (plus I got that old and forgetful thing going against me) -enjoy-you got it goin' on, girls!!! I hope to be back for week four, we'll see what this 40 something can do...In the meantime, YOU GO GIRLS!!!!
ReplyDeleteKim,that sounded like the reading of a will...and to Lisa I leave my high school class ring.lol I love being silly! No but you have mastered the personality and "glass half full" outlook. You don't just feel 25, you live an ageless, fun-filled life that is full of rewards because of it. So after you drop and give me 40 go and spread that to each person you come in contact with.
ReplyDeleteHey Kim- thanks for the shout out!! Thanks for being a great role model and mentor. You are awesome for continuing to move and workout even with your injury. Glad you are take it easy on your calf though- the poor thing! We've missed you in class and so I hope to see you at a Bootcamp downt the road. I do have to say that Im doing much better in Week 3- and I think the class appreciates it since they dont have to redo so much this week :) Guess now that the Drs figured out what condition I have it more than mentally helped me move forward and address my issues and start to really work towards my fitness goals. Anyway, take care of you and thanks for all the inspiration.
